Today I would like to talk to all of you about the importance of obtaining health insurance coverage for yourself and your loved ones. Many Americans don't have health insurance coverage because:
a. They don't think they need it.
b. Think they can't afford it.
c. The government (and taxpayers) will pay for their medical costs if they need it.
d. Don't know where to find it or how to obtain it.
c. Various other reasons.
Whatever your reason is, having medical insurance is a 'must' in today's society. All it would take is one major illness, emergency surgery or accident rehab to totally wipe out your finances and personal assets. Yes, it only takes one!
When you don't have medical insurance you can be denied care by a personal physician or specialist. In addition, you won't have the same access to medical care that insured patients have and the care that you need could be delayed, costing you a good recovery or your life.
I found a fantastic article online called "Why Health Insurance is Important" that can explain it much better than I can. I would love for all of our blog readers to go over and read the article to learn more.
About 20 years ago I got sick, needed 4 surgeries and spent almost 3 months in a local hospital. Once everything was over, I was left with almost a million dollars worth of bills to pay. I had to apply for state help and they did help with 3/4 of it, but I was still left with $255,000 to pay out.
My hubby and I had to set up payment arrangements with a slew of doctors, pharmacies and hospitals to try to pay off this medical debt. It took us almost 20 years, but as of last fall, we finally got it all paid off. With that said, if we would of had medical health insurance, we could of used that $255,000 to purchase a new home or to live more comfortably.
For those of you who do not have medical insurance, please take time out today to educate yourself about the options that may be available to you and your family. It's important and it is something you need to do TODAY!
